Leanna Kirchoff

In 2019, an Opera America Funded workshop performance of Leanna Kirchoff's "Friday After Friday" was performed in NYC.

"FRIDAY AFTER FRIDAY is a one-act collage chamber opera amplifying the voices of Syrian women trapped by the ongoing war.  An all-female ensemble plays a multitude of characters conveying sisterhood and solidarity in the face of unspeakable horrors. The libretto draws from numerous sources: memoirs of native Syrian and Western-born female embedded journalists, documentaries, and interviews with a variety of Syrian citizens. Short vignettes of narratives, illuminating a range of political and personal perspectives, chart the role of women as an active galvanized force within the conflict."

In 2021, arias from Friday After Friday won the IAWM (International Alliance for Women in Music) Miriam Gideon Prize.
